Community Times: Let's discuss Community Niche and Member Persona
Hello there, Community Rockstar 👋
I hope you had a productive month and are staying healthy both physically and mentally. It’s important to take short breaks, give yourself some time, and burnouts are real.
In the community news, I am having a hard time keeping my excitement in, because this time Community Folks(CFK) hosted our two most favorite series in a combined episode.
Yesss!!! You guessed it right.
CFK hosted the 8th episode of “Chronicles of Community Builders” with the monthly member catchup, everyone’s favorite “When RETRO Meets METRO”. This was possible because of Avani Parekh a RETRO, one of us, speaker of the 8th episode.
On the other hand, a lot more new community builders have joined our community. Join us at Community Folks to get to know them and listen to their experiences.
I am here to keep you updated on all things community, the events that are being hosted, and the open jobs.
So, scroll down to see the complete picture.
Let’s goooooooooooo!
Now, before I bombard you with all the industry-related news. I thought I’d talk to you about figuring out your community niche and drawing up a member persona.
It so happens that every time a brand decides to start a community. They have questions like,
How diverse should their community be or finding their community niche
Who is their ideal member or what should be their member persona
What kind of content would relate most with their audience
Community Niche?
To identify the community niche, we first have to understand what is a niche.
A niche is a place or position that's particularly appropriate for someone or something, especially due to being very specific and different from others. Niche often refers to a position or interest that allows someone or something to thrive in a particular environment.
In simple words, the niche is that particular set of markets that encompasses the majority of the brand-customer demographic.
How to identify community niche -
Identify your organization's goals
Conduct customer research using surveys and interviews
Identify your community audience and what they like to talk about
Create community goals aligned with brand goals
Member Personas
Member persona is the idea of a person who would be ideal for the community, they resonate with the mission of the community. The value that the community provides has meaning for them.
When creating a member persona, be as specific as possible. Include demographics, psychographics, and personal details to humanize your persona/personas(if you have multiple).
Give your persona a name, age, sex, value, and character traits. This helps you humanize it and connect to it better,
Some questions to ask when creating personas:
Who are the members of the community?
Where are they from?
What do they like?
What kind of content do they engage with online?
Keep refining it as you go.
